Hi. My name is Buddy. I am a 3 year old black Lab. I have a wonderful life. I get to sleep on the floor at night next to a little boy who sleeps with a stuffed dinosaur! And I have my very own squeaky ball!
But life didn’t use to be so good. My people before him didn’t let me outside much. They would forget to fill my water bowl. I began chewing on the legs of a chair. It was wood. I thought it was okay! But they didn’t like that so they kept me in the garage. That was lonely. Then one day they took me for a car ride. Yay! But then they forgot to take me back home with them, and left me out in the country. I was scared....and hungry.....and lost.
Finally a very nice man saw me on the side of the road, picked me up and took me to the Lawrence Humane Society. They took me in and gave me food and water and some medicine to make me feel better. They took me outside every day and scratched me behind the ears - that felt so good!
One day a little boy came in and looked at me and asked his Mom if they could take me home. That was the best day of my life!
I am so grateful for what the Humane place did for me (that’s what I call it, because it is.) And I want them to do that for as many dogs as they can that need to find their way to a forever home. Okay, and for the cats too.
But the Humane place needs help. They are trying to raise money to build a much needed new building. I want to help them, and want you to help me. Please consider donating to the Capital Campaign. It doesn’t take a lot, just a lot of people doing a little. If you could find it in your heart to donate a little bit to their cause I would wag my tail so hard for you!!
Please donate whatever you can. You can even donate anonymously if you wish, or in your pets’ name, in honor of them!
I hope you can take a moment to help me, help them. (And thanks to this Debbie person who put all this for me on her computer. See, I don’t have a computer. But I don’t need one. I have a squeaky ball.)
Every pet deserves a happy, healthy life. For more than 3,800 lost and homeless animals in our community each year, that chance begins at the Lawrence Humane Society.
The Lawrence Humane Society is a critically-needed local resource for Douglas County and Lawrence, but is being held back by limitations of an aging, inadequate, and failing facility that is long overdue for replacement. By building a new, state-of-the-art shelter facility, the benefits to both pets and people are clear: more lives will be saved; the number of homeless and abandoned animals will be reduced; and most importantly, families will be strengthened -- by having the space to find the right home for every pet, and by helping keep pets and people together for the long-haul.
We need the community's help to make this project a reality.
Whether you can chip in $5 or $5,000, every dollar will make a difference to the thousands of animals that will receive care, life-saving medical treatment, and love in our new facility. Donate now or become a fundraiser to help us reach our $7.5 million fundraising goal by the end of 2017.
