When Lovey came to the Lawrence Humane Society as a puppy of four months back in March of 2017, she was so frightened of humans that she refused to leave the corner of her kennel.

Underweight, no desire to eat, drink, play, or even look people in the eye, this poor puppy had been through who knows how much trauma before she came to our shelter.

After three straight days of avoiding contact with people to the point of starving herself, my husband, the shelter, and I decided that getting her into a temporary home, just until she warms up, would be in this sweet girls best interest.

And thus began the story of my Foster Fail.

Lovey become a permanent member of the Pifer-Pack as of April 21st, 2017.

It was through the Lawrence Humane Society and everything they do that my little 20 pound beagle-baby is now lovingly tackling our 60 pound Golden Retriever on the living room floor and snuggling with my five year old babysister on our weekly trip to my parents house.

Lets help more Lovey's find their forever homes.

Lets update our building so we can do even more for the community and all the wonderful animals in it.

Lets do it #forthem.

ABOUT FOR THEM Social Fundraising Campaign

Every pet deserves a happy, healthy life. For more than 3,800 lost and homeless animals in our community each year, that chance begins at the Lawrence Humane Society.

The Lawrence Humane Society is a critically-needed local resource for Douglas County and Lawrence, but is being held back by limitations of an aging, inadequate, and failing facility that is long overdue for replacement. By building a new, state-of-the-art shelter facility, the benefits to both pets and people are clear: more lives will be saved; the number of homeless and abandoned animals will be reduced; and most importantly, families will be strengthened -- by having the space to find the right home for every pet, and by helping keep pets and people together for the long-haul.

We need the community's help to make this project a reality.

Whether you can chip in $5 or $5,000, every dollar will make a difference to the thousands of animals that will receive care, life-saving medical treatment, and love in our new facility. Donate now or become a fundraiser to help us reach our $7.5 million fundraising goal by the end of 2017.
